DFW UNIX User's Group

The Dallas Ft. Worth UNIX User´s Group offers area UNIX users the opportunity to attend monthly meetings that include presentations from industry experts, small break-out sessions for special interest groups, and free pizza!

Our meetings are scheduled for the second Thursday of each month.
The IBM facility we use is still closed for meetings.     So no free pizza this month....

If you´d like to get involved and increase your networking opportunities, join us for our next meeting:

Thursday, January 14, 2021, 7:00 PM

The January 14th meeting will be virtual, through Zoom.

Cornelius Keck will give an introduction to what a commercial memory expansion does, and how to talk to it low-level. He will discuss how to talk to static memory chips. One could do that on a Pi, but 3.3V and TTL isn't a good fit, so he's been using an Arduino to do the TTL-talk. Development takes place on a Pi using whatever apt has in stock. One has to have a Linux box doing the talking because an Arduino is a bit short on memory.

Some of the IO pins unique to an Arduino Mega 2560 ("Mega", "2560") can be configured to drive static RAM hooked up to the connector pins 22-53. In this first talk we'll be looking at one of these extensions, and an app to drive it as native memory at CPU speed, as well as code switching between 32kB banks (if equipped).

There may be future continuation talks.
